Manufacturer of wiring and communications products and related application tools with six manufacturing divisions. Project/Operations Management: Conceived and applied lean techniques principles in base line and future state simulations for Power Connector, Rack Fabrication, Tool, Heat Shrink and Tape, Central Warehouse and Wiring Components Divisions. Recommended results yielded estimated-combined savings of over $1,000,000. Conceived and wrote strategic lean business unit plans (focused factories) for the division. Implemented in 1999. Potential savings of 10% of divisional budget. Six Sigma Black Belt project. Strategic Planning/Re-engineering: Converted assembly operations from traditional mass production and shop order systems to lean manufacturing using mixed model cellular techniques for high and low volume products. High volume changes are returning $100,000 annually. Converted batch subassembly builds to level loaded flat BOM production where possible. Coordinated and assisted support departments as needed. An OEM Tier One Supplier of automotive transmission bands. Acted as Project Team Leader to design and develop a $3.7 million lean manufacturing line using the Toyota Production System. Managed capital equipment projects (over $700,000) that included justifications, selection, purchase and installation. Equipment bought included CNC equipment, metal-stamping presses, grit blasters, shot peeners, specialty equipment and an adhesive drying system. Supervised other engineers and craft personnel as needed. Designed, developed, installed and debugged automation of in-house material handling systems (kaizen). Systems linked various manufacturing cells together. Work encompassed workstation layouts, interface with vendors on equipment design and in-house departments. Savings exceeded $450,000 annually. Oversaw the selection process of a new adhesive supplier. Work included solicitation of vendors, planning, testing, and acquiring required approvals from Ford and General Motors and final implementation.
