Responsible for performing sound and vibration analyses associated with product noise studies, including sound quality evaluations and source/path identification efforts that lead to effective modifications, and for developing, implementing and evaluating various signal processing procedures for use in remote sensing, active noise/vibration control, and machinery diagnostics.

Typical projects directed include the use of parameter reduction and adaptive deconvolution schemes to extract combustion pressure waveforms from measured engine vibration signals, computer modeling of sound propagation in roadway tunnels, development of a prototype embedded system for active control of transient vibration pulses, and the use of "jury panels" and statistical techniques to determine how different mechanisms and components affect the subjective sound quality of various consumer products.

Served as project lead on many government sponsored programs.  Examples of these include the use of vibration and electrical signals for remote condition monitoring of machinery, the use of acoustical signals for remote reconstruction of cave and tunnel geometry, and the use of vibration signals acquired on building exteriors to locate and identify machinery that may be operating within.  Other representative projects include the development of loudspeakers and other transducers, the design of effective audio signal processing to change the perceived height of sounds in home theater applications, and noise reduction of truck-mounted refrigeration units.
