This expert is experienced in platforms and operating systems including Sun, SGI, VAX, PC, Unix, Dos, VMS, and Windows. Programming languages include FORTRAN, and C.

Consultant, Kevin Kennedy Associates Inc.

Providing expertise in structural and thermal analysis, FEA, design, manufacturing processes, failure analysis, and related expertise to a wide variety of clients.

President, Project Manager, Stress, Thermal, and Dynamic Analyst, engineering consulting firm

Provided analysis of complex structures using FEA for evaluation of thermal and mechanical responses in metals, plastics, elastomers, wood, and composites exposed to linear and nonlinear loading conditions. Coordinated test plans for determination of material properties and the development of material models. Provided software development of customized engineering codes. Served as northwest technical support representative for the finite element code MSC.MARC. Supported numerous industries including aerospace, defense, machinery, automotive, medical, sporting goods, construction, electronics, utilities, software, testing, and failure investigation. Typical Projects: Failure investigation of gas generator tank – Nonlinear mechanical response of gas generator tank for excessive pressure loads. Analysis results showed tank was correctly designed to withstand maximum expected operating pressures. Buckling of vacuum chamber – Nonlinear mechanical response of rectangular tank under vacuum. Analysis results showed tank was insufficiently designed to withstand operating vacuum. FEA results matched the buckling failures observed in the field. Structural analysis of starter/generator unit for small jet – Modal and harmonic vibration analysis of a starter/generator assembly. Analysis results directed design changes to overcome significant stresses from harmonic vibration environment. Sub modeling included contact analysis to assess performance of clamping device. HDPE shipping containers – Displacement and stress evaluation of large ribbed containers. Development of creep and viscoelastic material models from material test results. Drop test simulations with plasticity. Buckling of shipping container walls – Large deflection analysis of stacked containers. FEA results showed buckling behavior similar to buckling observed in the field. FEA was further used to optimize design and eliminate buckling. Fire Suppression systems – Provide structural analysis for the support of fire suppression system designs. Loading conditions include dynamic flight loads, dynamic automobile driving loads, and crash loads. Missile shroud deployment – FEA simulation of shroud deployment and separation for aerodynamic loading conditions. Shroud deployment initiated by gas generator impulse load. Results correlated well with test and parallel analysis efforts. Grain Silo Collapse – FEA showed that non-centric discharge of grain in a grain silo generates a wall perturbation that leads to local buckling, followed by total collapse.
